Marie Denby, 84, of Carlinville, IL passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Marie was born October 1, 1932 to Bill and Julia (Hill) Sanders in Virden, IL. She married James Jordan Denby November 27, 1959 at the Christian Church in Virden.

Marie was a graduate of Virden High School and worked for the Secretary of State of Illinois in Mandatory Insurance from 1955 to 2000 as well as being a farm wife. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Rainbow Girls, and she enjoyed nature and trips to the river.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters; Beatrice, Sarah and Clara, and brothers; Floyd, Red, and Herbert. Survivors include: her son, James Denby Jr., grandchildren; Jennifer Denby of Virden, IL, James Denby III of Carlinville, IL, David G. Denby of Carlinville, IL, great granddaughter, Brittney Fugate, sister-in-law’s; Anne Denby Michael of Vero Beach, FL, Kitsy Denby of Carlinville, IL, nephew, Mark Wakenshaw of Key Largo, FL, and her dear cat, Miss Lilly of the Valley.


A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Carlinville, IL, with a 1 hour visitation prior. Burial will follow at Carlinville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
