Obituary for Carol Jean Gueldenhaar (Gill)

Carol Jean Gueldenhaar, 83, passed away peacefully Monday, July 17, 2017, at her residence The Arbors at Centennial Pointe in Springfield, IL. After enduring Alzheimer's for several years, she was called to her Heavenly home to join her husband Don, deceased August 17, 2016 and daughter Sheryl, deceased March 2, 2017.

Carol was born in Streator, IL on November 30, 1933 to Lester and Edna (Herb) Gill of Long Point, IL. She is survived by her daughter Judy Wagy and son in law, Tim of Carlinville, IL. She also has two Granddaughters, Kara Waldeck, husband Jarrod, and Great Grandson Maximus of Chandler Arizona, and Kimberly Hirstein, husband Chris, and Great Granddaughters Eloise and Olive of Shawnee, KS. Carol also has a brother Ron (Gloria) Gill, Jim (Mary) Gill, and Marna (Dave) Elias. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Shirley Reick.

Don and Carol were married February 1, 1953. Don entered into the air force, and they moved to Texas and Idaho. After his service, they farmed at Emington, IL until moving to the Raymond, IL area where Don worked for Pioneer Seed. Carol was Don's right hand, a constant support at every turn. Don and Carol spent many years living on Lake Lou Jaeger in Litchfield, IL before retiring and moving to Sun Lakes, AZ. Carol was a wonderful homemaker. With her love and actions, she cared for her family deeply . Carol took her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother seriously. Every occasion no matter how small was made to feel extra special. She was an excellent hostess, always prepared to receive friends and guests. Carol was a caregiver. She would see a need and respond in whatever way she could. Many were recipients of cinnamon rolls, apple pies, or a homemade meal. While living in AZ, she was part of the care giving ministry at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Flower gardening was a passion for her, as well as crafting, playing cards, and the playing piano. Carol and Don enjoyed boating and trips to the Ozarks. They were fortunate to be able to travel to many other locations with friends and family making many fond memories along the way. Carol loved the Lord and trusted Him fully. Through many illnesses she knew God was in control and that she would be taken care of.

The family was assisted by Heinz Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday August 26, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Raymond, IL. The family invites friends and family to the service at 11:00am and luncheon following the service.

Memorials may be made to: "Alzheimer's Association".
