Obituary for Peggy Ann Heinz (Schaefer)

Peggy Ann Heinz, 66, of Carlinville, died at 1:25 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 25, 1951, in Carlinville, a daughter of Edwin and Dorothy Schaefer. She married Greg Heinz July 29, 1972, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlinville. She was preceded in death by her father and brothers-in-law, Scott Jacobsen and Barry Stuckey.

Peg was a 1969 graduate of Carlinville High School and 1973 graduate of Blackburn College. She taught for 35 years in the Northwestern School District, touching the lives of hundreds of young children. Her teaching, but more importantly her love and care for her students, made lasting impressions. Following retirement, she taught PSR (catechism) for 7 years at Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church where she was a member. She enjoyed her Wednesday night card club. Peg was a loving grandmother who enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s athletic events and spending family time at Lake Rinaker.

Peg is survived by her loving husband, Greg; her mother; two daughters, Danlee (Greg) Whitler and Ashlee (Justin) Gibbs; four grandchildren, Marlee Whitler, Evee Whitler, Gustav Gibbs and Sylvee Gibbs; siblings, Linda Stuckey, Edwin “Butch” (Chris) Schaefer, Patti (Vince) Mathias and Paula Schaefer (Brad Mefford), all of Carlinville; John (Donna) Schaefer of Plano, Texas, and Steve (Ellen) Schaefer of Jerseyville; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Judy (Rich) Minster of Carlinville, Tom (Michele) Heinz of Hinsdale, IL and Jan (Tim) Best of Carlinville; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins.

Visitation will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, December 7, at Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 8, at the church with Father Michael Haag officiating. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Peg Heinz Scholarship Fund at Northwestern School District or Ss. Mary & Joseph Church.
