Irene E. Slagel, 105, of Carlinville, IL passed away peacefully Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Carlinville. She was born December 11, 1912 in Springfield, IL to Edward and Gertrude (Lochbaum) Barregarye. Irene married Russell Slagel, January 8, 1936 in Hillsboro, IL. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Irene was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton and Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville, and Ss. Mary & Joseph Alter Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, volunteering, and loved animals. She worked for Sears Department Store in Alton for 17 years before retiring in 1972.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 brother and 1 sister. Survivors include 2 nieces, several great nieces and nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 9-11am at Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a funeral mass at 11am officiated by Father Angel Sierra.

Burial will take place at Mayfield Cemetery next to her husband.
