James Porter Bentley, Sr. (Red), a prominent and well known farmer of northeast Carlinville, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at home surrounded by family. He was 94 years old. Red was born in Hestand, KY, May 5, 1924, son of William Harry and Artelia Grace Prather Bentley. He married Lavina L. Crum on January 7, 1944. Red moved to the Carlinville area with his family in 1936. After his father's death in 1939, the family bought a farm northwest of Carlinville that Red, his brother WH, sister Kathryn, and mother farmed together. He graduated in 1942 from Carlinville High School. In addition to being a farmer, Red was a Dekalb seed corn salesman and school bus driver. He was known for his custom farm work which included baling straw and hay and chopping silage in which he suffered the loss of a portion of his left hand in 1957. He was a member of the Carlinville Methodist Church and a member of Elks Lodge #1412. He had a passion for bowling in the Elks' league. Red won numerous bowling awards and loved going to the Elks' National Bowling Tournaments. He also participated in tractor pulling during the 50’s and 60’s at the Macoupin County Fair and enjoyed trying his luck at the casino. Red was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help his neighbor. James Porter Bentley, Sr. is survived by his wife Lavina, daughters, Janice K. Bentley Harding, Jennifer C. Bentley Uptmor of Carlinville, IL and son, James Porter (Shirley) Bentley, Jr. of Dorsey, IL; six grandsons, Steve (Beth) Harding, Andy (Kate) Harding, Sam (Krissy) Harding, Matthew (Jamie) Uptmor, Jay (Tracy) Bentley, and Brandon (Brittani) Bentley; four granddaughters, Tera (Ted) Uptmor Jones, Bronwyn (David) Bentley Morgan, DeShea Bentley, and Madeleine Feuquay; sixteen great grandchildren, Blake, Collin, Alex (Loveless), Stevie, Charlie, Payton, Makenna, Taylor, and Quincy Harding; Samantha and Megan Uptmor; Ryan, Caleb, and Adelynn Bentley; Vandon Sproull and Illithyia Morgan; also many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Red is preceded in death by his parents, brother William H. Bentley, sister Kathryn Jane Woods, half-sister Odette Herron, son Benjamin Sam Bentley, daughter Nora Jane Bentley Feuquay, son-in-law James A. Harding and grandson Kirk A. Harding. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 16, 9am-11am at Heinz Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation with Pastor Cliff Woodman officiating. Burial will be at Mayfield Cemetery in Carlinville. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Macoupin County 4-H Federation.

Dale L. Stone, 86, of Carlinville, IL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; son, Lenny Stone; and daughter, Cheryl Stone. He is survived by his wife Shirley Brockmiller Stone; daughter, Tina Stone-Pasqueno, daughter in law, Angel Pasqueno, and grandson, Dino Bergman. Dale served his country as a veteran of the US Army. Betty Lee Madden, 88, of Carlinville joined her husband John in the home he has prepared for her on Sunday, February 18, 2018. John preceded Betty to heaven, and was waiting with open arms. Betty was born in Alton, Illinois on November 5, 1929 to Melvin S. and Myrtle Lyles Campbell. In addition to her parents and husband John, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin S. Campbell Jr. and Charles S. Campbell. Betty spent her adult life with husband John as owner and operator of M & B Cabinet Shop, and as a loving mother and grandmother. Betty is survived by daughters; Cathy (Henry) Singletary of Wilmington N.C, and Diana (Kevin) Schott of Litchfield. She leaves 3 adoring grandchildren; Andrea C. (Josh) McMurray, John C. (Dana) Schott, both of Carlinville; and Angelika R. (Ethan) Fite, of Charleston SC. In addition, 4 great grandchildren will miss her terribly, Kylee McMurray, Jaxson McMurray, Kegan Anderson and Madden Schott. Services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation at 10am followed by mass at 11am. Interment will take place following the luncheon in Gillespie at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carlinville Public Library.

Joseph W. Dunn, Jr., 77, of Carlinville, IL died Friday, February 16, 2018 at his home in Carlinville. He was born December 14, 1940 in Carlinville to Joseph W. Dunn and Susan B. (Bilbruck) Dunn. Joe married Judith A. Mansfield December 18, 1960 in Modesto, IL. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, James, brothers; Thomas, Denzil, and Melvin Dunn, and sister, Mae Conklin. He retired after 37 yrs. of employment with General Telephone Company. Joe was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Judith Dunn of Carlinville, sons; Jerry Dunn of Lebanon, TN, Justin (Abbe Joiner) Dunn of Chesterfield, IL, Jason (Misty) Dunn of Flaherty, KY, daughters; Joyce (Sam) Wallace of Girard, IL, Jill (Doug) Twaddell of Beloit, KS, sisters; Evelyn (Lee) Hughes of Carlinville, IL, Wanda Elledge of Alton, IL, Melba Ribble of Bethalto, IL, Wilma Kreoger of Carlinville, IL, Pat Dunn of Chesterfield, IL, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10:30am at Heinz Funeral Home. A private family visitation hour will preceded the service. Burial will take place at Charity Cemetery following services. Memorials may go to MCDD.

Charles E. Frazier, 85, of Carlinville, IL died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his home in Carlinville. He was born December 17, 1932 in Carlinville to Walter and Merle Frazier. Charlie married Bonnie Harper December 9, 1961 in Raymond, IL. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters. He is a graduate of Carlinville High School and retired as a Union Boilermaker, Local 363. Charlie served in Korea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington with the US Navy. He was a member of the M & M Shriners, the American Legion, and an honorary Knights of Columbus member, and a gold glove boxer while in the navy. He was an avid golfer, gardener, and loved to volunteer and travel. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include; his wife, Bonnie Frazier of Carlinville, daughters; Renee (Ron) Sheedy of Morrisonville, Dana (John) Niehaus of Carlinville, grandchildren; Josh (Cybil) Hoffman of Harvel, Paige Sheedy of Morrisonville, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 4-7pm at Heinz Funeral Home. A private family funeral service will be held on Monday. Burial will take place at Mayfield Cemetery in Carlinville. Memorials may go to the M & M Shriners or the Carlinville American Legion.
